Dr. Maryam AlObaidly
PharmD., MSc., BCPS, FQS Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacy Practice | Kuwait
Dr. Maryam AlObaidly
PharmD., MSc., BCPS, FQS Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacy Practice
Maryam AlObaidly embarked on a transformative academic and personal journey at a young age when she left her home in Kuwait to pursue education in Ireland. As a determined and ambitious high school student entering a new educational system, she embraced a foreign culture while navigating the challenges of independence. This exciting yet demanding transition shaped her resilience and sparked a passion for pharmacy that continued to grow throughout her studies. During her early years in the Pharmacy Program at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), Dr. AlObaidly cultivated a deep appreciation for patient-centered care and the science underlying medication therapy. By her second year, her interest in pharmacology evolved from curiosity into purpose. She completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) degree and was selected to join a competitive Master’s research program focused on platelet activation during pregnancy, which strengthened her commitment to evidence-based clinical practice and interprofessional collaboration. Upon returning to Kuwait, she began her professional career in a variety of clinical and hospital settings. Her diligence, communication skills, and passion for mentorship quickly earned the trust of directors and clinical leaders, who encouraged her involvement in training junior pharmacists and technicians. As the healthcare landscape in Kuwait advanced toward a more clinically integrated pharmacy practice, the transition to the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum at Kuwait University motivated her to pursue further education and align her capabilities with the evolving needs of the profession. She was accepted into the PharmD program at MCPHS University, an institution recognized for its strong academic networks and clinical connections with Harvard-affiliated hospitals. Throughout her advanced practice experiences, particularly in internal medicine and critical care, she refined her ability to manage complex pharmacotherapy and actively contribute to clinical decision-making. Her leadership, professional service, and commitment to advancing pharmacy were acknowledged through her induction into Phi Lambda Sigma, the Pharmacy Leadership Society, a recognition granted to outstanding leaders who demonstrate dedication to the profession. Driven by her passion for improving patient safety and optimizing therapeutic outcomes, Dr. AlObaidly completed a prestigious fellowship in the Department of Quality and Safety at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, one of Harvard Medical School’s major teaching hospitals. Her work focused on critical aspects of healthcare delivery, including medication reconciliation, pain management practices, and improving vaccination rates among vulnerable populations, while also collaborating with interdisciplinary teams on heart failure and home care initiatives. During her first year of postgraduate residency training (PGY1), she also completed the Teaching and Learning Certificate (TLS) through Northeastern University in Boston, further strengthening her pedagogical skills and commitment to pharmacy education. Her desire to expand her clinical expertise further led her to pursue a two-year subspecialty residency in Solid Organ Transplantation (PGY2) at the same institution, after which she earned Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS). With this wealth of international training, she returned to Kuwait as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at the Cancer Control Center. In parallel, she accepted a faculty position as an Assistant Professor at Kuwait University, where she is deeply committed to preparing future pharmacists through teaching, clinical instruction, and research mentorship. She continues to elevate pharmacy practice nationally through professional development initiatives for Ministry of Health pharmacists, including leading Medication Therapy Management (MTM) performance evaluations, delivering a Board of Specialized Pharmacy review sessions in collaboration with KUPHA, and presenting advanced Therapeutic Drug Monitoring education and evaluations to enhance clinical pharmacy capabilities across the healthcare system. In October 2025, Dr. AlObaidly’s excellence in academic mentorship and her dedication to shaping the next generation of pharmacists were recognized with the Inspiring Educator Award from RCSI’s School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences. Her journey from a young Kuwaiti student discovering her passion abroad, to a respected clinician, faculty member, and mentor reflects an unwavering devotion to advancing patient care, empowering healthcare professionals, and enriching the future of pharmacy through leadership, innovation, and lifelong learning.

Dr. Ziyad Almalki
Almalki’s Bio Ziyad Almalki, Professor of health economic and policy and Dean of development and quality
Ziyad Almalki, Professor of health economic and policy and Dean of development and quality Dr. Almalki's academic foundation was laid at the prestigious King Saud University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy in 2008, establishing his roots in clinical practice. His career took a decisive turn with the pursuit of a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Outcomes from the University of Cincinnati's James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, completed in 2017. Since January 2019, Dr. Almalki has served as a member of the SFDA's Pharmaceutical Products Pricing Committee. This committee holds a critical national mandate: to regulate the pricing of all pharmaceutical products in the Kingdom to ensure a delicate balance between affordability for the healthcare system, access for patients, and a fair market for pharmaceutical innovation. The committee's decisions directly impact the national healthcare budget and patient access to life-saving medicines. It employs a sophisticated methodology, considering a drug's therapeutic value, the availability of alternatives, robust economic studies, and international reference pricing from over a dozen developed countries. Dr. Almalki's Ph.D. in Health Outcomes and his extensive research portfolio in pharmacoeconomics make him an exceptionally qualified expert to contribute to these complex deliberations. Dr. Almalki also serves on the National Health Economics Advisory Committee of the Saudi Health Council. The SHC is a high-level coordinating body that aligns strategies across various government health entities to achieve national objectives. The advisory committee's focus is on providing strategic guidance on the economic sustainability of the entire health system. This includes advising on the transition to value-based healthcare, the implementation of health technology assessment, and other measures to ensure the financial viability of the sector—all of which are central pillars of the healthcare transformation agenda outlined in Vision 2030. Dr. Ziyad Almalki is a prolific and impactful researcher, having authored or co-authored over 115 peer-reviewed publications. His research agenda is not a purely academic pursuit but is strategically aligned with Saudi Arabia's most pressing health and economic challenges. He consistently generates the specific, localized evidence needed to inform the very policy bodies on which he serves. "
